Bird’s Nest Spruce forms a spreading low growing mound with a depression, or nest, in the center of the plant which give’s rise to name.
The cultivar ‘Nidiformis’ is a slow-growing dwarf Norwegian fir that typically grows 2’ tall and 4’ wide after 10 years, though older plants can double this height and more than triple this width after 30 years. It features size spreading, horizontal to slightly ascending branches which form a dense, broad-rounded, shrubby flattened globe. Thin dark gray needles become 3/4” long. In the spring the fresh young buds add interest to this plants.
